How the 4% rule withdrawal calculator works
Year one withdrawal = portfolio × rate. Each later year the withdrawal rises with inflation while the remaining balance earns your assumed return.
Example
Using the default inputs (Portfolio at retirement: $1,200,000; Initial withdrawal rate: 4%; Inflation: 2.7%; Annual return: 6%; Years in retirement: 30), the calculator returns first-year withdrawal of $48,000. Change any field above to see your own result and charts update instantly.
